Duke of Edinburgh Award

Mountain Sojourns Approved Activity Provider (AAP)

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE) provides young people between the ages of 14 and 24 with the opportunity to gain recognition for their commitment and 'get up and go'. On completion of the programme Young people in Northern Ireland can choose to be awarded “The President’s Award “ “The International Award “or “The Duke of Edinburgh Award”.

As employers have become more aware of what a DofE award says about the young person who has achieved it, individuals and schools have become increasingly keen to get involved with DofE.  “Doing the DofE “gives participants the chance to learn new skills, make new friends, whilst having great FUN!

Young people can choose to do their DofE at three levels (Bronze, Silver and Gold), and involves volunteering in the community, getting fitter, learning new skills, going on an expedition and taking part in a residential activity (Gold only). Exactly what activities the participant takes part in each section is up to them and the choice is vast, so they can choose the things that are of particular interest to them.

As an Approved Activity Provider (AAP) for the DofE, we are delighted to be able to provide all elements of the expedition section of the award – the very section that schools and businesses tend to find more difficult to administer. We can provide complete packages for schools and businesses, Open Awards or help to deliver a programme you already have running.
